And the answer is....

What do these have in common?

What is it all about?

Early in 2011 the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, will launch a campaign to increase the capital’s tree cover. This will be London’s contribution to a national tree campaign and the Mayor is urging London’s businesses to help him realise his ambition to create beautiful tree-lined streets, gardens and green spaces which will enhance the lives of millions of people who live, work and visit London.

How can companies get involved?

London mayor Boris JohnsonThe Woodland Trust is supporting the Mayor’s campaign as we believe it represents a great opportunity to involve our corporate friends who have London-based businesses, staff and customers.

We are asking companies to pledge their support for the campaign and to undertake at least one of the following actions:
•  Plant trees on your own land in London (anything from a single tree to several trees). We can provide advice on how to do this.
•  Support the campaign by providing sponsorship. We can provide the link to exciting projects and initiatives that require funding.
•  Work with us on inspiring and assisting your London-based staff to plant trees. We can help develop communications materials and possibly organise staff planting days.
•  Ensure your customers in the capital are aware of the campaign and inspire them to do their bit. We can work with you on this, possibly linking with other Trust initiatives.
•  Inform us of your existing commitments or plans to plant
trees that could be linked to the London campaign.

"Street trees are an uplifting addition to our communities and I am determined to reverse their decline."

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London

How will this benefit my company?

We want to see more tree lined streets like this in LondonBy pledging your support your company will benefit in the following ways:

• Become a partner in an environmental project which has the personal support of the Mayor of London
•  Gain a unique message which will help build brand
•  Demonstrate your company’s commitment to improve quality of life in London.  An increase in tree cover improves air quality, mitigates surface water flooding and helps cool the most densely developed parts of the city, thus addressing climate change.
•  Involve staff and customers in a range of green activities, including tree planting and fundraising
•  Receive in-house PR advice and support to help promote the partnership
•  Use the Trust's website, e-newsletters and social networking to communicate involvement
•  Gain support from a professional team which will manage the partnership from the start to the finish of the relationship
