Yell and the Woodland Trust have enjoyed a long and successful partnership and are celebrating their tenth year in 2011.
In that time Yell has helped the Trust promote woodland conservation through various projects, including the very successful Yellow Woods Challenge projectwhich ended in April 2011.
Clare Allen, Head of Corporate Partnerships said: "Throughout the partnership, Yell has been very mindful of its responsibilities towards the environment. Sustainability is very important to them.
"Yell's approach to this seems integral to its business - its Yellow Pages directories, for example, are produced with recycled fibre and virgin pulp from certified sustainably managed forests and are 100% recyclable. This is something that we are very supportive of.
So far Yell have donated over £630,000 - equivalent to the cost of planting 29 hectares of new woodland - enough to cover about 75 football pitches.
Yell are currently sponsoring Visitwoods, an online database developed by the Woodland Trust in partnership with other leading organisations such as the Forestry Commission and the National Trust, which maps nearly 14,000 woodlands across the UK giving easy access to information on nearly all publicly accessible woods. It is the UK’s first interactive website to bring all major woodland-owning organisations into one searchable database. It will enable people to find their nearest accessible wood and directions to it. Visitors keen to share their experience can attribute various features and facilities to the woods they've visited, as well as uploading photographs, recommendations and comments to the site.
