Yell, the publisher of Yellow Pages directories, supports the Woodland Trust through the Yellow Woods Challenge - a simple, educational and fun environmental campaign for schools, run in partnership with more than 100 local authorities across the UK.
Part of the Yellow Woods Challenge is for schoolchildren to create sculptures using the directories they recycle. This year 89 entries were received from schools and Naomi Wilkinson, Channel 5 presenter, has picked her top 6 to put to the public vote. Voting closes on December the 9th so get voting NOW!
The Challenge supports the Woodland Trust's "Tree for All" campaign and encourages school children to recycle old Yellow Pages directories. Pupils learn about woodland conservation and the environment through free curriculum-linked activities which feature Kirk, the campaign mascot.
Yellow Pages awards cash prizes to schools for their recycling efforts and for creating giant artworks using the old directories. For every pound awarded to schools, Yell gives a matching pound to the Woodland Trust which we invest in campaigns that involve and benefit children.
Since its launch in September 2002, two million school children have taken part in the Challenge. To date, Yell has awarded £350,000 to schools and given an additional £350,000 to the Woodland Trust.
