Planting a tree for every refrigeration unit recycled
Total Refrigeration plants a tree with the Woodland Trust for every refrigeration unit it collects and recycles.
The Hyde-based company has also taken steps to improve its own environmental impact - wherever possible using hydrocarbon refrigerants in its ice cream freezers rather than ozone-depleting CFCs. In addition, it now recycles 97% of each unit that it disposes of.
The partnership continues to be a great success and has so far seen 7800 native trees being planted by the Woodland Trust.
Getting involved - staff tree planting day in St Helens
Recently, Total Refrigeration staff braved freezing temperatures and frozen ground to take part in a second day of tree planting at St Benedict's Wood in St Helens, Merseyside. Despite the difficult digging conditions, resulting in one broken spade, ten members of staff planted 300 saplings in a couple of hours with guidance from Woodland Officer Tim Kirwin.
Stuart Grimshaw, Marketing Manager at Total Refrigeration, said: “This is the second year we have planted trees at St Benedict's Wood so it was great to see the fruits of our labour. Despite an influx of hungry hares and rabbits who took a liking to last year’s trees, half of those saplings have survived.
Total Refrigeration is fully committed to the Woodland Trust’s vital work in preserving our countryside and will continue to support the tree planting programme. We will also be looking at other initiatives, such as ground clearing.”
