The Woodland Trust Scotland, have completed the purchase of the 240 ha (600 acre) site, the first step towards creating the largest native woodland on Glasgow's doorstep at Lang Craigs.
The purchase marks the culmination of 18 months of fundraising, generously supported by the public and backs by some well known Scottish celebrities, including Harry Potter star, Robbie Coltrane, actress Elaine C Smith, and TV personalities Carol Smillie and Kirsty Young.
However, we still have a shortfall in funding if we are to realise our vision for the site and allow it to reach its full potential.
Our big plans - to shape the future of the Scottish lowlands
Native woodland still occupies less than 2% of land in the Scottish lowlands but under our ownership, tree planting at Lang Craigs will allow us to increase this by adding to the existing broadleaf woodland - enhancing the natural landscape and transforming the land into thriving woodland for the benefit of both wildlife and people.

Lang Craigs is a stunning example of Scottish landscape at its finest. Named after its commanding outcrops and clearly defined by rolling hills and rugged moorland, the site offers spectacular views of the Clyde, Loch Lomond and the beautiful gardens of Overtoun. But sadly parts of the site have been neglected and are now awash with rhododendron and bracken - limiting the site's wildlife value. So by planting 200,000 native trees including ash, oak and alder, we will help to create a new woodland mosaic - breathing life back into the site and allowing species to create a home here once more.
