Save the UK's ancient woods

The UK's ancient woods are in danger...

...and our campaign to protect and restore them must go on.

Despite the Government's decision to abandon its consultation plans to dispose of a vast 220,000 hectares of England's public forests, we are still in danger of losing our country's ancient woodland.

Throughout the UK, other woods are facing threats from housing developments, road expansions or leisure pursuits, wiping out our beautiful ancient woodland in the blink of an eye.

Only 2% of our land is now covered by ancient woodland and despite being home to more threatened species than any other UK habitat, 427 ancient woods are under threat today due to the lack of legal protection.

Our vision for our ancient woods

Until the importance of ancient woodland and the value of the biodiversity it brings are recognised, the UK's woods are still in danger.  We campaign vigourously for no more loss of ancient woodland, and we want to see the Government enforce a stronger protection for ancient woodland and close the loopholes which have put these woods at risk today.

But we only have limited resources for fighting threats like these.  In the last 10 years, we have saved nearly 400 woods, but to continue our work, we need your help to ensure the protection of our remaining ancient woodland for wildlife and for future generations to enjoy.
