"We have planted 1,200 trees to increase native woodland cover – and wildlife habitat - in Cornwall’s picturesque Warleggan Valley. We even have plans for a fruit and nut wood."

All the tree planting as been part of a growing tree planting movement across the UK co-ordinated and driven by the UK’s leading woodland charity, the Woodland Trust.  It is encouraging landowners large and small to plant native trees on their land; offering advice, help and, in exceptional cases, funding. 

Why plant a wood for fruit and food

Many species of trees provide a valuable food crop - apples, pears, plums, damsons, hazelnuts and walnuts. Planting the right species of trees within your wood can provide a valuable source of sustainable food a key times of the year with enough for you and the local wildlife.

Fruits trees can also be used as shade and shelter for other crops and livestock as well as attracting pollinting insects at key times of the year.
