Woodland care

How do we look after our sites?

The Woodland Trust is fortunate to have a very diverse estate with sites ranging from tiny but popular urban woods, new woodland creation sites, National Nature Reserves, to large upland estates such as Glen Finglas in Scotland.

Although a large proportion of our estate is woodland we also manage a range of other habitats, incuding farmland.

To help mange our sites we employ a team of woodland officers, who work alongside contractors, to ensure all necessary woodland operations are carried out safely and properly.

Woodland officers are also responsible for preparing management plans for each of our sites, setting out how we intend to care for them over the next five years.

We also manage our sites in line with our woodland management approach. We are proud of the fact that we were the first major landowner to receive certifcation by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) for all our woods.
