About this wood

At Heartwood Forest near Sandridge, St Albans, there are plans to create an 850 acre woodland which, once completed, will be the largest new native forest in England. A total of over 600,000 trees will be planted – including a community orchard, but there will also be new wildflower meadows, open spaces and miles of footpaths and bridleways created over a 10 year period. The project will involve the local community through a range of engagement projects.
