About this wood

Two Mile Coppice is a 5.88 ha semi-natural woodland, of which 1.5ha in the north east corner is considered ancient in origin. It forms part of the Lorton Site of Special Scientific Interest (total area 21ha, the remainder of which is neutral grassland managed by Dorset Wildlife Trust). Historically a coppiced woodland, but not thought to have been managed as coppiced for some time, consequently the coppice is 'stored' and the structure is gradually converting to high forest. Main species are ash, pedunculate oak and hazel. Minor components include some field maple, occasional willow, poplar, hawthorn & holly.
