About this wood

Once part of a large hunting forest and later a focus for mining, quarrying and industrial activity, today Bitholmes Wood is subject to little disturbance. The semi-natural ancient woodland lies on steep valley sides, sandwiched between Sheffield and the Peak District National Park and is home to many bird species, including woodpeckers and pied flycatchers.
