About this wood

Part of a large woodland block designated of special scientific interest, Staffhurst is a nationally important ancient wooded common, rich in species. It also has in interesting history - dating back to at least Saxon times when it was part of a royal hunting forest. And during the Second World War the woodland was used as an ammunitions dump.
