About this wood

Blean Wood forms part of the most extensive areas of broadleaved woodland in Britain. The broadleaved areas throughout the property are good representatives of woods situated on London Clay and support an outstanding assemblage of invertebrate species. The nationally rare heath fritillary butterfly has been recorded on the southern edge of Cpt 1 in the past. Cpts 2-4 have been much modified through conifer cropping and drainage. However, open areas of acidic grassland and heath (formerly conifer plantations felled post 1987 storm) add important internal landscape value in the Blean Wood complex and provide feeding areas for a number of bird species (including night-jar).

This site has been transferred into third party management with appropriate safeguards in place to ensure it remains protected. The site is no longer under our day-to-day management control and therefore we do not maintain a management plan for this site. There are also no dedications available on this site.
