About this wood

Merton Wood is a 3.6 ha site which is made up of 2.85 ha of native broadleaved woodland and 0.75 ha of grassland. The woodland (oak, ash, wild cherry, field maple and hawthorn) was planted in 1987 as one of The Trust’s Licence Planting Schemes before it was given to The Trust in 1990. Prior to this the site was a paddock grazed by horses. In 2004 a small area of the existing meadow was planted to improve the woodland edge a joining the meadow.
