About this wood

A small area of woodland originally planted, as a commercial cobnut orchard at the turn of the 19th century although it is thought some sort of coppiced woodland existed on the site from around 1800. The orchard gradually became commercially unviable and no hazel coppicing or pruning had occurred at all between 1975 and 1991 when the Woodland Trust recommenced active hazel management.
