About this wood

Oxmoor Copse is situated in a prominent position along the western slope of a picturesque valley in the Surrey Hills AONB on the southeast outskirts of the village of Abinger Hammer. It is halfway between Guildford and Dorking. The name Oxmoor Copse is derived from the adjoining wet field to the west which is locally known as "Oxmoor". The wood is small (1.23 hectares). It is on the acidic Greensand, and consists predominately of mature oaks, a large number of which were blown in the 1987 storm. Following this the wood was tidied up and replanted in 1991. Grazed fields surround the wood on all sides.
