About this wood

Small, rocky woodland set in an area of small fields of mixed farming on the eastern upland edge of Dartmoor, situated to the west of the village of Chagford. This Semi-Natural Ancient Woodland covers some steep ground running westwards downhill to a narrow floodplain containing the Blackaton Brook. The main area of woodland is principally Sessile Oak-Downy Birch High forest (W11a). Throughout there are some significant older trees with lichen communities and the area near the brook is more floristically diverse.
