About this wood

Ragpath Wood is a large mixed woodland set in the Deerness valley. Spread across the steep hillside overlooking the old mining village of Esh Winning, Ragpath forms the eastern end of a plantation belt covering the valley’s southern side. The wood is an ancient woodland site planted in the Fifties with larch, Scots pine, spruce, sycamore and beech, though a scattering of oak and birch still survives.
