About this wood

Set in the heart of Constable country, Stour is a traditional chestnut coppice woodland dating back to at least 1675. This is the only place in Essex where woodland leads naturally to saltmarsh - a great place to spot wading birds. Beside the chestnuts grow oak and the rare wild service tree and beneath, bramble, hazel, birch and aspen thrive.
