About this wood

Set in the heart of Constable country, Stour is a traditional chestnut coppice woodland dating back to at least 1675. This is the only place in Essex where woodland leads naturally to saltmarsh - a great place to spot wading birds. Beside the chestnuts grow oak and the rare wild service tree and beneath, bramble, hazel, birch and aspen thrive.

"A lovely old wood at chestnut time, a long walk and quite a few people. Nice for autumn photos."
