About this wood

A haven in an otherwise sparsely wooded landscape, Fifehead Wood is a rich wildlife resource known for its important moth and butterfly populations - this is the only known place in Dorset to find the light orange underwing moth. Records show no fewer than 24 different butterfly species, including purple hairstreak and white admiral and its breeding bird population includes herons, great spotted woodpeckers and tree creepers.
