About this wood

Coed Ceunant occupies a valley on the western flanks of the Clwydian Range AONB below Moel Famau Country Park. The key features of this woodland are the presence of semi natural ancient woodland, new native woodland and the provision of public access. It is comprised of semi natural ancient woodland together with an extensive area of improved pasture ( formerly woodland which was felled during the first World War) a third of which was planted in 1999 with native broadleaves. The majority of the woodland is even-aged with ash,oak birch and beech with a significant proportion of sycamore. The field and shrub layers are restricted over much of this area due to years of grazing which the Trust continued temporarily in order to manage the pasture.Sheep continue to graze the retained pasture internal fencing erected in 1999 excludes stock from the the woodland and new planting.
