Lower Grass Wood

Welocome - all our 1,000+ woods are free to visit

On the left hand side is Lower Grass Wood, looking down stream.
We dedicated an acre of this wood to our daughter, Vanessa, who drowned tragically in the Philippines in October 1999 aged 27.

About this wood

Ancient woodland adorns this stretch of the River Wharfe valley less than a mile from Grassington. This linear mixed broadleaf site is an important part of one of the Yorkshire Dales National Park's largest ancient woodland areas. The wood has an open character, due to the loss of most elm trees, with a light canopy of sycamore, oak, ash and birch with occasional larch and beech. But Nature is plugging the gaps with dense patches of regenerating hawthorn, birch, beech and ash.
