About this wood

Work is in hand to reduce the number of conifers at Sisland Carr and replace these with broadleaved trees. Damage wreaked by the storms of 1987 prompted replanting and young native broadleaf species are becoming well established. The combination makes for a pleasant walk, offering a variety of woodland from close dense conifer blocks where pine needles cushion the floor to sections where coppicing and tree thinning has been taking place.
