About this wood

Sited on a prominent sandstone escarpment in northwest Cheshire, these undulating woods offer far-reaching views from the Welsh borders to the western Pennines and the Bowland Fells. There is a rich history to be discovered here. At the summit of Woodhouse Hill the remains of an Iron Age fort can be made out, now designated a Scheduled Ancient Monument, and Snidley Moor’s surviving patches of heather and bilberry suggest a long history of being grazed heath with woodland.
