About this wood

Once part of the landscaped grounds of the spa, the woodland is made up of mature oak, Scots pine, beech and a lot of regenerating birch. Decorative trees such as redwoods and limes have been introduced in the past. The Pinewoods are favoured by lots of wildlife including a notable range of woodland birds such as great spotted woodpeckers which nest in mature trees. The importance of protecting the site was brought into focus when much of the surrounding woodland was lost to development.
