About this wood

Coed y Glyn is comprised of ancient semi natural woodland which is situated on a steep slope in a very secluded, remote valley alongside a minor road, with the northern boundary being formed by a tributary of the River Wheeler.Whilst situated in the Clwydian Range AONB the site is not prominent in the landscape. The local area is generally well wooded with the adjoining land being mainly woodland with improved pasture to the south. The soils are damp and the presence of springs make the site particularly wet and prone to slumping.A majority of the woodland is of coppice origin , having been cut probably circa. 1940's, with the canopy being comprised of predominately alder with ash and oak with sycamore invading.Hazel is the main species in the understorey ( also of coppice origin) with holly, elder rowan and sallow. The ground flora is diverse particularly in the flushed areas.Public access is via a public footpath from the public highway.Management access is also off the highway, although there is no internal vehicular access .
