About this wood

Stanley woodland was recorded as Buckholt wood in the Doomsday book, a name that reflects a large number of beech trees. Part of the adjoining woodland, outside of Stanley wood is still named Buckholt wood today. The western half of the woodland is surrounded by a number of archaeological sites (Scheduled Ancient Monument 32367; SMR79 and SMR’s 4110, 4111, 4112, 5134, 5216, 16931 and 21059).
