About this wood

A north facing woodland on the hillside above the River Wye. Formerly boggy grazing land and open grazed oak, birch and alder pasture woodland, but fenced and planted in 1974 with a wide range of non native species with the aim of creating an arboretum. The middle section of the wood is very wet with a line of springs feeding boggy ground dominated by purple moor grass, sphagnum, alder, birch and willow.
