About this wood

This 20-hectare wood (50 acres) ancient woodland stands on a steep valley side overlooking Southway in the northern parts of Plymouth City. A Local Nature Reserve agreement was signed with Plymouth City Council in 1997. The wood consists of largely even-aged Oak, Birch, Beech, Sweet Chestnut and Sycamore on the upper drier slopes with Ash, alder and willow on alluvial soils in the wetter valley bottom.
