DISCOVERING THE MAGIC OF PRESSMENNAN

A professional trapeze artist, woodland creatures and environmental games entertained East Lothian schools last week as they participated in a woodland discovery week organised by the Woodland Trust Scotland.

Schools across East Lothian were invited to participate in a week-long woodland discovery event with the Woodland Trust Scotland, part of the UK’s leading woodland conservation organisation.  The children were taken round a specially designed trail - home to the mystical creatures the “Tootflits” and “Glingblobs”.

Up amongst the branches the children discovered the “Tootflits” and on the forest floor they found evidence of the “Glingblobs”, the magical creatures who live and play in the wood.

As the children made their way around the trail - they looked for signs of these mystical creatures and met some of the characters who live in the wood who then joined them on their walk.

The event is aimed at teaching the children about woodland wildlife in a fun and interactive way.  The Trust wants to instil an understanding that trees are as important to us as they are to other living things and Pressmennan Wood is a fantastic wood for all sorts of wildlife

The Trust developed the trail with local wood carver, Robin Wood.  Robin developed the idea as a way to make visiting woodland more fun.

Rebecca Whitley of the Woodland Trust said “The idea is  to get the children out, exploring the woodland, becoming aware of the different parts of the woodland environment  - from forest floor to tree tops.  The week provides a fun and stimulating way to tune into the real enchantment of the woods.”
