The Woodland Trust Scotland is reviewing and producing a new management plan for Moncreiffe Hill Wood. Moncreiffe is a major landmark just a few kilometres from Perth. The Trust, part of the UK's leading woodland conservation charity, acquired this 132 ha wood in 1988. Since then it has been working to safeguard the wood for the future.
The wood is home to a great variety of tree species including Douglas Fir, Larch, Scots Pine, birch, Sycamore and ash – they are all of different ages from young saplings to large mature individuals
Moncreiffe Hill Wood is a popular spot for those who enjoy a woodland stroll, visitors can enjoy panoramic views over Perth, the River Tay and Strathearn and further afield to Fife and the Lomond Hills. You can also see the famous landmark of Kinnoull Hill to the north with its tower and crags.
The plan describes our long-term vision for Moncreiffe Hill Wood, including management operations for the next 5 years. It will contribute to the fulfilment of our objectives of enhancing woodland biodiversity (variety of life), increasing the area of native woodland and making woods accessible and enjoyable to all.
All of the Woodland Trust's woods have Forest Stewardship Council certification, which means that we are accredited with an international seal of approval for the quality of our woodland management. The Trust was the first major landowner to earn UK wide certification for all its woods. The management plan, to be reviewed every five years, will assure that the same high standards of management continue.
The Woodland Trust Scotland would very much like to hear the opinions of local people so that they can be taken into account before producing the final version of the management plan. The summary or full draft management plan can be downloaded from this website. A summary plan can be requested free of charge from the Trust’s office in Perth on 01738 635829 or email Scotland@woodlandtrust.org.uk. However, if a full printed version of the plan is required an administrative fee will be charged.
Any comments should be directed to Woodland Officer, Jill Aitken, at Woodland Trust Scotland, South Inch Business Centre, Shore Road, Perth, PH2 8BW or jillaitken@woodlandtrust.org.uk. The deadline for comments is 16th March 2009.
