Green Dream at Lang Craigs

Pupils from across Dumbarton got up close to nature last week to celebrate West Dunbartonshire’s Green Dream 2010, a month long programme of eco-events and promotions to encourage a greener lifestyle amongst local residents.

Led by the Woodland Trust Scotland, the pupils swapped the classroom for Lang Craigs to experience the natural world surrounding them.

Kate Walters said:” The day provided the pupils with a chance to escape the learning environment of the classroom and swap it for the outdoors, and to learn about the natural world in an inspirational way that will inspire them to become the future guardians of the environment.”

The Trust’s Rebecca Whitley added: “The day was just a taster of what the Trust hopes to offer schools across West Dunbartonshire.  Once we are an in a position to acquire Lang Craigs, it is our intention to invite more schools to experience outdoor learning in this stunning location.”

In 2009 the Trust launched a £1.5 million appeal to acquire and create new native woodland on 240 ha (600 acres) at Lang Craigs.  The Trust’s vision for Lang Craigs is that it becomes a thriving home for wildlife as well as an area for rambling, family picnics or quiet reflection.
