Dumbarton Family Go Ape

A Dumbarton family will be Going Ape at the high wire forest adventure park in Aberfoyle thanks to the Woodland Trust Scotland, part of the UK’s leading conservation charity.

The Duncan family won the vouchers at a woodland fun day organised by The Woodland Trust Scotland, in the grounds of Overtoun Estate

The event was organised to launch the Trust’s £1.5million fundraising appeal to acquire and create new native woodland on 240 ha (600 acres) at Lang Craigs. Years of neglect have degraded its natural environment but the site offers fantastic opportunities for native woodland creation and community involvement - with the promise of accessible green space.

The Woodland Trust Scotland has a unique opportunity to acquire the land at Lang Craigs – but only has limited time to secure the site and fulfil its ambition to create a woodland legacy for future generations.

The Lang Craigs launch event provided an opportunity to engage with members of the local community and discuss plans for the site.  The day was packed with activities for the whole family including storytelling walks, willow weaving and green art.

Louise Duncan said “We had a great day out with the Trust recently in the grounds of Overtoun Estate, learning about their plans for the site and taking part in the many activities that were organised.  We are really looking forward to spending a day high in the trees of Go Ape.”

Rebecca Whitley, Woodland Trust Scotland Project Officer said, “The opinions of the local community are important to us as we develop our plans for the site.

Not only do we want to create new native woodland, we also want to create an area that will become a thriving home for wildlife and an area where people can visit and to give children an opportunity to be involved and learn about the wonders of nature.”
