Celebrities get behind appeal

Scottish celebrities are lending their support to the Woodland Trust Scotland’s  Lang Craigs appeal.

TV presenter Carol Smillie and TV actress Joanna McLeod in getting behind the campaign.

In 2009, the Trust launched an ambitious fundraising campaign to acquire 240 hectares of land at Lang Craigs. The site offers an amazing opportunity to secure this hidden gem and fulfil its ambition to create a woodland legacy for future generations.

Years of neglect have degraded its natural environment, however, the site offers fantastic opportunities for native woodland creation and community involvement with the promise of accessible green space. The Trust wants Lang Craigs to become an intrinsic part of the community, the site has great potential offering family days out, rambling, picnics, a place for quite contemplation or a place of learning.

The Trust’s ambition is echoed by BBC Scotland Tinsel Town actress Joanna McLeod who said: “Lang Craigs is a wonderful chance to get communities and children involved in planting trees, improve access to a really beautiful part of the countryside and encourage local people to get their kids out, just as my parents did for me.”

Also remembering her childhood TV Presenter Carol Smillie said: '' I spent my idyllic childhood playing in woodland, and yet sadly, nowadays kids seem more interested in technology.
If we all get behind The Woodland Trust and support their plans to plant 200,000 trees, generations to come will have the chance to enjoy the beautiful landscape it will create, and all the wildlife it will attract.''
