The Woodland Trust Scotland need your help to enable us to purchase 7ha (17acres) of woodland right next to Backmuir Wood in Tayside. This area of woodland is the remaining piece of Backmuir Wood not already cared for by the Trust.
Securing this woodland is of great importance to the local community, the many visitors who come each year as well as the wildlife that live there. By helping us purchase this wood, we would be able to care for and protect the whole wood for everyone to enjoy.
The local Backmuir Community Group plays a significant and ongoing role in the management of the site, for which there is a strong sense of ownership and pride.
Grant Kidd from the Community Group said, “The Backmuir Community Woodland Group have been keen to acquire the last remaining section of Backmuir of Liff wood for some time. Backmuir wood is very popular with dog walkers, children and those interested in the abundant and varied nature, including a thriving red squirrel population. By raising the funds to purchase this new section we will be able to ensure that the wildlife and woodland can be conserved and that the community will always have access to it.”
Jill Aitken, Woodland Officer added, “With our combined efforts and the generosity of others we hope to raise the necessary funds to purchase the final piece in the Backmuir jigsaw and continue our work improving and protecting the site.”
