Wear your wellies on 4 March in support of the Woodland Trust’s tree planting campaign
The Woodland Trust is asking the Northern Ireland public to get ready to ‘Give it some Welly for Woodland’ this March. The exciting new initiative aims to raise funds to support the Trust’s goal of doubling native tree cover across the UK.
The conservation charity is asking local people to play a part by holding a ‘welly event’ on 4 March 2011. Encourage your friends and colleagues to wear wellies to work, school, or your local club. And by making a donation, you will help the Woodland Trust to plant trees and provide homes for our precious wildlife, as part of its ‘More Trees, More Good’ campaign.
Patrick Cregg, director of the Woodland Trust in Northern Ireland, says: “It’s a really great way to fundraise, while having fun with your family, friends and colleagues. We want as many people as possible to get involved, and it could be as simple as encouraging your employees to wear their wellies to work, having a ‘welly walk’, or even organising a coffee morning.”
Celebrity supporters include Clive Anderson, wildlife broadcaster Simon King, and Northern Ireland’s well-loved Jimmy Cricket.
The Cookstown-born comedian Jimmy Cricket says: “Well, I’ve always been a huge fan of welly boots and I’m glad that I’ve been able to set a fashion trend! Seriously though, I hope that thousands of people across the country – adults and children - will don wellies this March and support the Trust’s fundraising campaign. We need many more trees - for people, for the landscape, and for our precious wildlife. With combined efforts, we really can make a positive and lasting difference.”
