IKEA Belfast is extending a novel invitation to its co-workers and customers to wear their welly boots on Wednesday 16 February. The home furnishings company is kick-starting the Woodland Trust’s ‘Give it some Welly for Woodland’ campaign which takes place on the 4 March; an exciting initiative designed to raise funds to help the Trust plant new native trees.
Simply don your favourite wellies for your IKEA Belfast shopping trip and make a donation to the Woodland Trust. Your support will help the Trust realise its goal of doubling native tree cover in the UK, providing much-needed habitats for our precious wildlife.
The ‘welly day’ is part of IKEA UK’s continuing commitment to the environment. Through a unique partnership with the Woodland Trust, the company donates the equivalent of a square foot of forest every time customers swipe their IKEA FAMILY loyalty card. IKEA FAMILY members across the country have already helped the charity to create 230 acres (over 93 hectares) of beautiful new woodland throughout the UK, including new planting at Newtownabbey’s Carnmoney Hill.
As well as the chance to put one’s best welly boot forward on 16 February, a brimming agenda awaits young nature lovers at IKEA Belfast right throughout half-term (14 to 16 February) including acorn planting and nature treasure hunts; while pupils from Seaview Primary School in North Belfast will enjoy tree planting.
Patrick Cregg, director of the Woodland Trust in Northern Ireland, says: “We’re extremely grateful to IKEA for their ongoing support, and this is a fun and fantastic opportunity for customers to make a simple, but extremely positive gesture for the environment.
“We really hope that local people will play a part, either by popping along to IKEA on the 16th, or by following in IKEA’s footsteps and organising their own ‘welly day’.”
