Heartwood Forest reaches halfway mark
Saturday 17 March saw the 300,000th tree planted at Heartwood Forest in Hertfordshire. This marks the halfway point of the tree planting programme at what will become England's largest new native woodland, covering over 850 acres.
Every single tree being planted on site is being done so by a volunteer, with over 25,000 people having already helped out during the course of the last two and a half years since planting began.

First trees planted at Diamond Wood in Grantham
Staff from the Woodland Trust joined cadets and military personnel to plant the first 2,000 trees at Prince William of Gloucester Barracks in Grantham. In total over 80,000 trees will be planted on site, which will form a 70 hectare Diamond Wood as part of the Trust's Jubilee Woods project.
The wood is being created as part of a partnership with Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and will enhance training facilities for troops based at the barracks.

Wood theft is rotten to the core
The Woodland Trust is appealing for people to stop removing deadwood from Midgery Wood in Preston.
This follows several reports of members of the public entering the site with wheelbarrows and chainsaws to retrieve wood which has been left following thinning works.
