The Woodland Trust credit card
A charity is asking consumers to turn over a new leaf in 2011 and help the environment by taking out the Woodland Trust Credit Card.
The Co-operative Bank, which provides the credit card, is pledging a double donation of £30 to the Trust throughout January every time a card is taken out.
The Trust will in turn use this money to plant at least two trees in some of its 1,000 UK woods.
So far, the card has raised more than £100,000 for the charity which the Woodland Trust has used to plant more than 4,000 trees and also helped to protect and look after some of its many woods, which are all free for the public to visit.
Penny Pulfrey, from the Woodland Trust, said: "What better way to usher in the new year than to take out a new credit card which will see two lovely native saplings planted in this country.
"These trees will grow to become big and strong - enhancing the UK landscape and providing much needed woodland for people of all ages to enjoy for generations to come.
"Applying for the Woodland Trust credit card couldn't be easier. All you need to do is visit our website, which is www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/coop, and follow the simply instructions provided."
The card features the iconic image of a sea of blue bluebells flowering amidst a typical ancient woodland, which for some people sparks fond memories of playing in the woods as a child.
£15 is donated by The Co-operative Bank when the card is taken out - outside of the January double donation period. A further donation of £2.50 is then made by the bank if the card is used within the first six months and an additional 25p donation is made when the card holder spends over £100.
In 2009 the Woodland Trust credit card won Best Charity Card Programme at the prestigious 'Card Awards', which were hosted by BBC Radio 4's John Humphrys.
The card was also highlighted as one of the top three credit cards live on 'This Morning', on ITV 1, in February, because it has a competitive APR rate of 12.9%.
