Charity praises Peterborough business' tree-mendous support
A PETERBOROUGH based company has raised enough money to create an area of woodland the size of 45 Peterborough United football pitches.
Eco insurance provider ibuyeco, which is part of BGL Group, based in Orton Southgate, has just handed a cheque of £250,000 over to its charity partner – the Woodland Trust.
This money will enable about 50,000 trees to be planted in the UK – some of which will be planted by community groups in and around the Peterborough area.
The money has been raised through the sale of car and home insurance through the ibuyeco website. Every time a person signs up or renews their car or home insurance policy (buildings and contents combined), they get the option to choose for the Woodland Trust to receive a £5 donation.
Gareth Law, Marketing Manager, from ibuyeco, visited the Woodland Trust's head office in Grantham this week to deliver the cheque for £250,000 and was presented with a panoramic picture of glorious bluebell woodland, which will take pride of place in his Peterborough office.
Gareth said: "We are really pleased that we have been able to support the Woodland Trust in such an amazing way, with its essential work preserving and replanting our native woodlands for future generations to explore and enjoy. ibuyeco is committed to helping the environment and the level of donations show that our customers really value the work of the Woodland Trust too.”
The insurance provided by ibuyeco is a greener choice in the insurance world because customers have the option to offset the CO2 emissions produced by their car or home. Ibuyeco also makes a donation to the Trust of £2.50 for either a buildings only or contents only policy.
Karl Mitchell, director of fundraising at the Woodland Trust, who collected the cheque said: “We want to thank ibuyeco and all of their customers who have taken out a car or home insurance policy with them and chosen us as the charity to receive their donation.
“The £250,000 donated by ibuyeco means that we have been able to plant 50,000 trees across the UK. This is an amazing achievement in over just one year!"
