Plant trees for water management

Carefully sited, native trees and woods can help to maintain and improve water quality and reduce the risk and severity of flooding.

Riparian trees and woods which provide dappled or broken shade can help reduce water temperatures, benefitting fisheries and other wildlife. Trees can also help stabilise river banks, reducing erosion during flood events.

The Woodland Trust is working with the Environment Agency, Rivers Trusts, farmers and other partners to help deliver well planned tree planting to support water management.
