Colin Hall

Colin is an abstract artist who was inspired to share these two tree-related works with us during our High Speed Two campaign.

See Hazel Catkins in Emmanuel's Vase

See Salix Caprea

These pieces were also part of an exhibition at Newark Park National Trust Gloucester in spring 2011; a show full of items relating to decay, recycling, regeneration and growth.

Angela Goodman

As a painter Angela is particularly interested in the visual ways in which tree forms interact with other landscape elements:

See Trees on Little Solsbury

Angela says "I used to recognise personalities in the various shapes and colours of trees. As a small child I spent many hours while perched in a cherry tree or on a high wall amidst lilac blooms enjoying the view. Half a century later those soft or piquant scents of leaves, barks, leaf moulds and blossoms can instantly make me a child again".

All paintings are acrylic paints on canvas or board. More of Angela's work can be seen on her website.

Pippa Chorley

Illustrative artist and harp-faery Pippa is originally from west Sussex, and now walks in the snowy 'Narnia' woods of Trondheim, Norway.

See Pippa's work on our poetry page, too.

Pippa used mixed media to create these mystical images. Her work is inspired by the mythical creatures who have been known to dwell in the forests:

Pippa's latest project is about Tree Mages - the embodiment of the magic voice of the forests, the architects, healers, and spell~binders of the world's beautiful woods:

These and more can also be seen on Pippa's website.

Richard Bavin

Charcoal drawings, watercolour and oil paintings of Oak trees and Wellington Wood, an ancient semi-natural woodland dating back at least to the 12th century, by Richard Bavin.

See 'Wellington Wood'

See 'Old Oak 1'

A landscape artist with a passion for trees, Richard has been working in a wood near his Herefordshire home for four years. His work is currently displayed online.

Lee Pugh

Painting on canvas with acrylics. West Midland artist Lee is a Facebook friend of our very own Oak Tree and shared this with Oak online.

See 'Gog at Moonlight'

Lee's work has also been on show at festivals around the country including Glastonbury, Bearded Theory and Wickerman and is currently on display in the "Pretty Vacant" touring visual arts exhibition and "Artspace" - both based in the West Midlands.

Lesley Stevas

Lesley's passion for trees has grown with her from a childhood spent climbing, playing and hiding in trees with friends. Through art she hopes to communicate the joy she feels when outside, especially whilst walking through a wood.

See 'Blue Woods'

See 'Laggan Woods'

Using online images and photographs as an aide memoire, paintings and sketches are inspired by the effects of the weather, the contrast in tones during autumn, and bright rays of sunshine as they play and jostle for space upon leaves during spring. More of Lesley's work is featured on her blog.

 Film

Celestial Elf

Pagan poet, Bard and Eco-Druid, Celestial Elf has produced several machinima films celebrating nature, spirit and the ancient ways.

 Watch 'The Tree of Life'

This original film is a cautionary tale and includes a link to our Save Ancient Forests for Everyone petition.

Matilda Rexton

Tilly is an Animation graduate in Staffordshire and produced this short film as part of her final project. We helped with some of the technical information she required and she kindly sent her final piece - 'A Squirrel in Search of Sanctuary' - for us to share.

Watch 'A Squirrel in Search of Sanctuary'

Tilly's red squirrel shows all too clearly the desperate fate of so much of the UK's wildlife as habitats are torn and fragmented through development and industry pressures.

John Jones

'Patchwork Stitched Forest Leaves' is a time-lapsed motion animation showing the journey of an environmental art quilt panel, which John created by machine-sewing forest leaves together.

This fascinating short film shows the panel being recycled naturally, back to the soil from whence it came.

Patchwork 'Leaf Footprint' postcards now available.

All John's work is featured online in his virtual gallery exhibition.

David Adams

David told us that 2011 plans to sell off ancient forests as part of a review of ownership of the public forest estate in England "stirred me into action in my own small way and inspired me to make an animation based on protecting our woods".

A VJ and designer, David has created several animated films online as Alc0traz

...trees, forest and woodland are precious elements in our world: not only in their physical form as shelter for creatures, as beautiful raw material and as green breathing spaces but also as an unknowably vast psychological and emotional resource - as vital as ocean and mountains but more heart-breakingly vulnerable.
