Community purchase of woodland

It  may seem like a bit of a pipe dream but it can be a really effective way to protect a wood. If your local woods are under threat you can become more involved in the management of the woodland or greenspace. This could be done a number of different ways from buying the area outright, setting up a 'friends of group' or leasing a site from the owner.

Many groups have taken this action so it is possible!!

Below and on the right are some guides that will help you decide if this option is something that you and your community can make work.

Don't worry, there is support and advice available.

The Community Woodland Network has been set up by the Woodland Trust to support woodland groups throughout the country with their invaluable work in managing and conserving woodland. The Network is always keen to hear from and support new groups. Find out more about them here.

You can also download a number of guides that will help explain the mysteries of buying or leasing a wood and help you get started in this area.
