Where are the threats? Contact us

Often, the most effective way to protect trees and woods is through local people, acting locally.

Because ancient woodland is such a precious and vulnerable habitat, the Trust focuses its limited resources on our aim of 'no further loss of ancient woodland'.

In the last ten years, 935 ancient woods have come under threat through the planning system.

We actively fight this loss and damage to ancient woodland.  We formally object to potentially damaging applications and challenge decisions which impact on this rich woodland asset. We also advise and lobby decision-makers at a regional and national level to help them understand its importance, and to encourage them to give our natural world better priority when shaping our landscapes.

At a more local level, our WoodWatch campaign empowers communities and individuals to take action to protect the woods and trees near them.

We also keep a record of known threats.

Over the last ten years, with your help, we have recorded hundreds of woods under threat across the country. Please notify us of cases near you so we can continue to do this, and continue to help communities take effective action to protect the woods and trees they care about.
