Dear Mr Pickles....

Here are just a few of the comments that have been sent to Eric Pickles using our online form - there are some fantastic points!

'I went to some of the planning meetings and was appalled to hear that the majority of the high quality ragstone is actually broken up for aggregate rather than being used for heritage building work & repair.  I was also interested to hear that there are currently at least 4 years worth of reserves remaining in the currently quarry area and that demand has slowed down.'

'Your government promised to be the “greenest ever" please remember that promise when considering this case.'

'Please call this in Mr Pickles - the destiny of all ancient woodland lies in your hands! Let this one go and others will follow suit. This will stain the reputation of your government ambition to be the greenest government ever! Don’t let a bad local decision damage central government’s plans...Hold them to account!'

'This application is causing an unnecessary loss of ancient woodland - you have the power and the expertise to look into this properly and ensure that this is not the case.'

'As you probably know, these types of woodland support a large variety of species and, you probably also know, the rate of species extinction is rising. Surely allowing a woodland such as this to be decimated is bordering on criminal? Please do not allow this to happen. Thank you.'

'We have to draw a line under the continued degradation of the land and agree enough is enough. We must protect what we have got and restore the land to a healthy condition.'

'This is Britain's own unique version of rainforest - to be incensed at countries like Brazil for allowing their rainforests to be destroyed, but then allowing the equivalent to happen on our own doorsteps is criminal - and short-sighted.'

'Do you want to go down in history as the man who allowed this irreplaceable woodland to be destroyed? Would you be as happy to see the loss of a Leonardo da Vinci mural? How can anyone put a price on this?'
