What can I do about climate change?

There are some basic simple actions you can take. While they won't solve climate challenges we are facing you will help to make a real difference.

You may already do some or all of the ideas below, but we also need you to help us put pressure on our political leaders to be 'Not Stupid' - urge them to make a difference nationally and internationally. You can do this by signing up to Stop Climate Chaos.

Some tips for cutting your own carbon footprint:

  • Change your lightbulbs to energy savers.
  • Switch to a 100% green energy supplier.
  • Walk or cycle instead of driving short journeys whenever possible.
  • Turn appliances off at the socket instead of leaving them on standby and avoid leaving appliances to charge unnecessarily.
  • Use natural products - clean with diluted vinegar, lemon juice and borax instead of chemical cleaners for example.
  • Turn your thermostat down by at least 1ºC.
  • Next time you travel to Europe don't fly - try the train or coach instead (saves up to 1000KG of CO2)
  • Install a microgenerator in your home to get your power directly from renewable energy such as a rooftop wind turbine
  • Insulate your house
  • Don't go to gym, go down to the woods and exercise instead
  • Ask local businesses to take action to cut their carbon emissions

Finally you can join us, dedicate a tree or support our Woodland Carbon project. More trees and woodland are vital to make the natural world more resilient to climate change.
