West Sussex

West Sussex among the best - and worst - counties for woodland.

Despite West Sussex taking silver as the second best county in England for woodland cover, with 21.4% compared to the national average of 10%, the county is also among the five worst for both the high number of threats to ancient woodland AND the number of ancient woods lost or damaged.

Statistics show that a staggering 38 ancient woods have come under threat in the last 10 years – nine of which have already been lost or damaged.

Action is needed urgently to stop this.
