Somerset

Somerset has one of the highest numbers of threats to ancient woods.

Somerset needs to do more to protect its woodland as 14 ancient woods have come under threat in the last 10 years – seven of which have already been lost or damaged.  Action is needed to stop this.

Woodland cover in Somerset is also lower than the national average (8.4% compared to 10%) so more work needs to be done to improve this.
