Hampshire

Hampshire is among the best - and the very worst - counties for woodland.

Despite Hampshire being among the top five best counties in England for woodland cover (19.4% compared to the national average of 10%), the county is sadly among the five worst for both the high number of threats to ancient woodland AND the number of ancient woods lost or damaged in England.

Statistics show that a staggering 48 ancient woods have come under threat in the last 10 years – nine of which have already been lost or damaged.

Action is needed to stop further loss.
