What's happening now?

It's critical that the aspirations for England's forests, woods and trees can be turned into reality.

What's happening?

In July 2012, the Government said it will formally respond to the Independent Panel on Forestry's final report (the Forests Report) by January 2013.

The Report included over 30 recommendations for the future of forestry and England's public forest estate. We believe the Government needs to take the Panel's recommendations seriously and show leadership by accepting the recommendations in full - and going even further in creating the right conditions for all woods.

Late in 2012 Defra held further ‘conversations’ to ‘fully engage stakeholders’ in shaping the Government's official response to the Report. The 'conversation' period closed on November 30th. Thank you for taking part.

We started some conversations of our own on our Woodland Matters blog

The official response is due in January 2013.
